Rene Leguin-Colin 2008 Bourgogne

Dark ruby red, slightly cloudy when I shine a flashlight through it.

Ripe blackberry smell and leather, hints of oak.

Almost-ripe blackberry flavor, leather and oak, long tart finish that cries for something fat to cut through.

Very good medium-bodied bottle, $21.99. I bought a case abd will be consuming it over the next year or so.

Pierre Morey 2007 Bourgogne Aligote

Very pale burnished gold color.

Mild apple smell.

Tart apple flavor, no noticeable oak. Might work well with sea-food.

Aligote is the other white grape of Burgundy and this wine does little to dispell the common thought that it makes thin acid wine best suited to making kir.

Overpriced inoffensive light-bodied bottle for $24.99.

Jean Saint Honore 2005 Pouilly-Fuisse

Rich straw color, tinted green.

Oak and flint smells, apple fruit.

Flavors are buttery, oaky, mineral, peach and pineapple.

A few years ago, Pouilly-Fuisse was a bottle for the wine-snob-wanna-be: an affordable wine without much merit, thin and harsh. This is a good-enough bottle for $16.99,food-friendly and not lacking in fruit.

Domaine Coste-Caumartin 2005 Bourgogne Passe-Tout-Grain

Bourgogne Passe-Tout-Grains is a blend of 1/3 Pinot, the rest Gamay. It's neither widely available nor widely respected.

Medium ruby color, purple highlights.

Strawberry, walking-in-the-country-in-Spring smell with spicy oak, some blueberry.

Strawberry and cranberry flavors, fruity wine well-balanced with acid. Worked well with a ham & swiss sandwich, even with a healthy schmeer of Dijon mustard.

Pleasant light-to-medium-bodied bottle for $19.99. It looks red but it drinks rosé! A bit over-priced, I think.

Joseph Drouhin 2005 Cote de Beaune-Villages

Medium ruby color. Raspberry and rose smells, hints of leather. Flavors of raspberries and red cherries, trace of cranberry in the acid that well balances the fruit.

The next day I can detect no changes. I'll try to refrain from flights of organoleptic fantasy.

I ordered a $15.29 bottle of Drouhin 2005 Beaujolais-Villages. This was shipped by mistake. Lucky me! I'll treat this as the $15.29 wine it inadvertently is, in my case, and not the $24.99 wine the seller intends it to be. With that in mind, I’d gladly buy this again for $15.29, if anyone were offering.

While this isn't the product of one craftsman grower from one vineyard, demonstrating the qualities of that terroir, nor is it of awe-inspiring complexity, but this is a good honest Burgundy, and I like it very much.
